The South Asia Inscriptions Database
Records: 215
Inscribed on one side only. Campus size estimated on the basis of photo.
Dimensions estimated from plate size. Letter size is also an estimate, no figure is reported. 13 lines on the first plate, 11 on the second plus a seal impression.
Single plate, 14 lines on recto and 15 lines on verso. The right edge (recto view) of the plate seems to have broken off, obliterating the last character of some lines on the recto face. Dimensions above probably pertain to the inscribed area but may instead be those of the entire plate.
The dimensions are for the entire inscription of two parts, here treated as two inscriptions.
These dimensions are for the entire inscription of two parts, here treated as two inscriptions.
The inscription is on the three northern faces of the octagonal section of the pillar; the bottom of the inscribed area is about 230 cm from the ground.
Sixteen lines on the recto, eighteen on the verso, with both faces covered entirely by the inscription. The last line of the verso, containing the date, is squeezed into very little space and contains characters only in two places, near the centre of the line and near the end. The dimensions above are for any one face.
The inscription occupies five faces of the octagonal base, with the lines running contiguously across the faces. An indentation of the base below line 4 has destroyed some of the top mātrās in line 5, and the bottom has been broken off, leaving line 12 incomplete and any number of further lines lost.
Dimensions estimated from plate size. 12 lines on the first plate, 13 on the second.
15 lines on the first plate (presumably on the verso), 12 on the second and third (recto). Carefully engraved and very well preserved. Campus size estimated from plate size.
