<p>The statue was "discovered" some years before the arrival of an Archaeological Delegation sent by the Government of India to Afghanistan in 1956. At the time it was under worship at the Dargāh Pīr Ratan Nāth shrine in Kabul. It was said to have been brought there at an unspecified time from Gardez (32.3573737,67.0006024), but locals in Gardez had no memory of this in 1956.</p>

Sharma, was circulated in 1956, containing transcription, translation and a photograph of the image on Plate 2A. The text was first published in #Tucci_1958:328n29, along with a detailed description of the image and a photo on page 323. The inscription was re-edited in #Sircar_1963a:44-47.
