Bilsad Stone Pillar Inscription of the time of Kumaragupta I: Primary (north column)

The inscription of 13 lines is on the eastern side of the pillar. Agrawala (1983:26) provides a third dimension (4.5 cm), which is presumably the depth of a recessed panel on the column.

The pillar is at the southwest corner of the eastern part of Bilsaḍ village (see ASIR_10, Plate 5 for a map). It is the northern member of the western pair in a group of four columns, probably remnants of the temple of Mahāsena mentioned in the inscription. The western columns are circular monoliths with copies of the inscription; the other pair (26 metres to the east) is square and bears no inscription. The height given for the pillar is for the extant finished portion; the top is broken off, while at the bottom there is a rough section of unknown length. The southern column of the western pair has a duplicate of this inscription (%IN00020), with the lines arranged differently, and the text mostly eroded to illegibility. The eastern pair consists of square columns, bearing images of Gaṅgā (northern column) and Yamunā (southern column).
