Discovered during excavations conducted by Nagpur University, probably in 1975-76, in the village of Māṇḍhaḷ (20.940411,79.466583) in Umred taluka of Nagpur district. (#Shastri_1975-76a says the excavations took place in 1976-77 and 1977-78, but he says so in a paper supposedly written in 1975-76 [though not published before 1989], and the discovery of the plates is reported in a review for 1975-76 [though not published before 1979]. #Shastri_1975-76b says the excavations took place in 1975-76). The intact set of plates was found (along with two other sets, %OB00176 and %OB00177) in an earthen pot just below the surface at the mound named Bholā Huḍkī.
